Terms of service
Last updated: 19 July 2026
1. Who we are
Cohl is made and run by Jumpstart Developments Limited, a company registered in New Zealand. When these terms say "we", "us" or "our", that's who we mean. "You" means the person or business holding the account.
These terms are the agreement between you and us for the Cohl service at cohl.app. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@cohl.app and we'll explain it in plain words.
2. What Cohl is
Cohl turns your idea into finished Instagram carousels and TikTok slideshows. You describe what you want, and our AI assistant writes the copy, designs the slides, and produces images you can edit in the built-in editor and export for posting.
Because the service runs on AI models, results depend on what you ask for and can vary. You are always in control of what you keep, edit and publish.
3. Your account
You need to be at least 16 years old to use Cohl. You sign in with your email address or a Google account. Keep your sign-in details safe: you are responsible for everything that happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, tell us straight away.
Please give us accurate account information and keep it up to date. Your account is for you; don't share it or let others use it.
4. Plans, credits and top-ups
Cohl is a paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly. Every plan includes a credit allowance for each billing period. Credits are what you spend when the assistant writes, designs and generates images for you.
- Plan credits reset each billing period. Credits you haven't used expire at the end of the period and do not roll over.
- Top-up packs are one-time purchases of extra credits. Top-up credits never expire, but you can only spend them while a subscription is active. If your subscription ends, they stay on your account and become spendable again when you resubscribe.
- Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred to another account.
Prices are shown at checkout. If we change the price of your plan, we'll give you notice before the new price applies to a renewal, so you can cancel first if you don't want to pay it.
5. The free trial on yearly plans
Yearly plans come with a 7 day free trial. A card is required to start it, and each account gets one trial, ever. During the trial you get the whole product, including export, with nothing held back.
Here is the important part, plainly: when the 7 days end, your trial automatically converts to a paid yearly subscription and your card is charged the full yearly price. If you don't want to pay, cancel before the trial ends. Cancelling takes a couple of clicks from the billing page in the app, and you keep full access for the rest of the trial.
6. Payments and cancelling
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers; we never store card numbers.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel any time from the billing page in the app, which opens your Stripe customer portal. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the current period: you keep access and your remaining plan credits until then, and you aren't charged again.
7. Refunds
Our refund policy has the full details. The short version:
- Your first yearly subscription purchase comes with a 14 day window for a full refund on request. That meets and goes beyond the 14 day withdrawal right EU and UK customers have, and we honour it for everyone, everywhere.
- Monthly fees and top-up packs are refundable where the law requires it, or at our discretion when something went wrong on our side.
- Credits you have already spent are not refundable.
To request a refund, email support@cohl.app.
8. Your content
You can upload images and other material to use in your projects. Everything you own stays yours. By uploading, you promise you have the rights to the material, and you give us permission to host, copy, process and display it as needed to run the service for you, including passing it to the AI providers that do the processing. That permission exists only so the service can work. We never publish your content.
You can delete projects and uploads in the app whenever you like.
9. AI output and who owns it
Your slides and exported images are generated by AI models working from your inputs. As between you and us, the outputs you create are yours: to the extent we hold any rights in them, we assign those rights to you.
A few honest notes on AI output:
- You are responsible for how you use it. Check facts and claims before you publish, because AI can get things wrong.
- You are responsible for making sure your use doesn't step on anyone else's rights, such as trademarks or the likeness of real people.
- You are responsible for following the rules of the platforms you post to, like Instagram and TikTok.
- AI models can produce similar output for different people who ask for similar things. We assign you our rights in your outputs, but we can't promise no one else will ever generate something alike.
10. The inspiration feature
You can link public Instagram posts or Pinterest pins as inspiration. When you do, we fetch a copy at your instruction and store it privately as reference material for your design process. It is visible only inside your account.
- Only link content you are entitled to use as a reference.
- The feature is built to learn from style, not to copy. The assistant describes what it sees in words (mood, layout, palette) and designs new slides from that description, so your generated slides are new works.
- Don't use the feature to reproduce someone else's content or pass someone else's work off as your own.
11. Acceptable use
Use Cohl to make your own content. You must not:
- create, upload or fetch anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights
- probe, overload, reverse engineer or otherwise try to abuse the service or work around its limits
- resell access, share accounts, or use the service to build a competing one
- use the service in ways that break the rules of Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest. Complying with platform rules is your responsibility.
12. Our intellectual property
Cohl itself (the software, designs, brand and everything that powers it) belongs to us and our licensors. Your subscription gives you a personal right to use the service while it lasts; it doesn't transfer any ownership of the service to you.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve the product without owing you anything. We appreciate them all the same.
13. Suspension and closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or is used for abuse. We give notice where practicable, and where the problem can be fixed we'll tell you what needs to change.
You can close your account any time by emailing support@cohl.app. Closing an account doesn't refund spent credits, and remaining plan credits expire with the subscription; our refund policy covers when money comes back. If we ever retire Cohl entirely, we'll give you reasonable notice and refund the unused portion of anything you've paid for.
14. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Cohl fast, reliable and good at its job. Even so, we provide it "as is" and "as available". We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted or error free, that AI output will be accurate or suited to a particular purpose, or that generated designs will match exactly what you pictured. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties.
If you use Cohl as a consumer, nothing in this section takes away the guarantees consumer law gives you, including the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
15. Our liability, and yours
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims connected with the service is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event the claim arises from, and neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue or data. This cap doesn't apply where the law says it can't, and it doesn't limit your rights under consumer law.
In return, if a third party brings a claim against us because your content or your use of the service broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable losses and costs we suffer as a result. We'll tell you promptly about any such claim and won't settle it without giving you the chance to weigh in.
16. Changes, governing law and the fine print
We may update these terms as the product evolves. If a change is material, we'll give you reasonable notice by email or in the app before it takes effect. Using Cohl after a change takes effect means you accept it; if you don't, cancel before then and the old terms apply until you go.
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and you and we each submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts. If the consumer laws where you live give you extra rights, or the right to bring claims in your local courts, these terms don't take that away.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms, together with our privacy policy and refund policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the service, and they replace any earlier discussions. Questions go to support@cohl.app. A human reads them.
